We believe the best way to healthy food is with healthy and happy animals. At The Farm, our pigs are grazed on pasture and wooded areas. We purchase our piglets from locally certified farms, feed them fresh veggies from our gardens, and they love anything they may find while rooting in their paddocks, like acorns, blueberries and fallen apples from our trees. They are supplemented daily with locally produced organic grains to meet their full nutritional requirements.
We provide pork in both half and whole pig shares.
2025 PRICES
The price per pound is $7.95/lb. hanging weight for half shares, $6.85/lb. hanging weight for whole shares.
What is "hanging weight"? Hanging weight refers to the weight of the pork after the initial processing stage, before it is cut into individual portions like chops, roasts, and ground pork. This weight is used as the standard for pricing when purchasing a whole or half pig.
Can you explain more? When a pig is harvested, certain inedible or unused parts are removed. The remaining portion, known as the hanging weight, typically makes up about 70-75% of the animal’s original weight. From there, the meat is carefully cut and packaged based on your preferences, resulting in the final take-home amount, which is usually 60-70% of the hanging weight.
What is included in the price? Raising the animals on our farm and processing in vacuum-sealed, labeled packaging is included in this price. Smoked portions will have an additional service charge of $2.50 per pound as weighed after packaging. Any items that are smoked, such as bacon and hams, will be available approximately 3-4 weeks after the fresh pork is available.
When do you butcher? Our butcher dates are typically in October. We will recieve a specific date from the butcher, and relay that well in advance of that day.
How much space do I need in a freezer? Our whole pork share requires approximately 3.5 to 6.5 cubic feet of freezer space depending on take-home weight.
But how many cuts do I get? Here is an approximate based on a hanging weight of 200 pounds:
NOTE: Due to natural variations in pig sizes, the exact quantity and selection of cuts may vary. We do our best to butcher each pig around 250 lbs hanging weight. However, they are times over and sometimes under this weight.
